The Student Guardian Visa allows you to stay in Australia for the same length of time as the student (or until they turn 18). Your main role is to provide full-time care and support for the student. The main purpose is to look after the student, not for employment or permanent settlement.

Who Can Apply?
To apply for a Subclass 590 visa, you must:
● Be the student’s parent, legal guardian, or close relative (aged 21 or older)
● Be nominated by the student’s parent or legal guardian
● Show you have enough money to support your stay
● Have approved health insurance (Overseas Visitors Health Cover—OVHC)
● Meet health and character checks required by the Australian Government
Note: You usually can’t bring younger children (under 6 years old) unless there are special circumstances. We can help check if you qualify and prepare the documents needed.
What Are Your Responsibilities?
As a Student Guardian Visa holder, you must:
- Live with and care for the student full-time
- Make sure the student goes to school and keeps up with their studies
- Tell the Department of Home Affairs if your situation changes
